Note: I wrote this after thinking about our experience snorkeling in Maui. I am not a good swimmer so I had to psych myself up in order to just get in and try it... but once I was able to breath slowly and relax it was an experience different from any other. I felt "at one" with the creatures of the ocean. It was amazing and surreal, otherworldly. However, that macro experience was done in micro stages.
Remembering the paradigm shift of learning to breathe underwater, it got me wondering about Heaven and what a different experience it will be. It will be so radically different that all I can think to compare it to is the times I have been overcome by unexplainable feelings that I know without the shadow of a doubt to be the Holy Spirit bringing emotion and thought to me beyond my human constraints.
The parallels of our gained knowledge are examples of how we can gain knowledge of God. In our earthly, bodily form, our means of communication with and knowledge of God is via the Spirit of Truth (see John 15:26).Like testing the waters or building a friendship, there are stages to trusting and experiencing God. The macro experience of God is done in micro stages.
That said, I now know I love snorkeling. The next time I go to Maui I am diving in!
